Korean call for collaboration in quick time

Checking out core logging in the core library

South Korea¡¯s growing interest in a closer engagement with Western Australia¡¯s resources sector was underlined by a recent visit by prominent academics, co-ordinated through by our Seoul office and Perth Korea desk

University professors, representing six universities participating in the Korea Energy and Mineral Resources Engineering Program, visited Western Australia from 18 to 23 January 2010.

The six visitors wanted to build their understanding the WA mining/petroleum industry and education system; build collaborative relationships and develop a mining/petroleum educational study program for Korean students.

They met with key industry, academic and government organisations including the Department and were particularly impressed by the Geological Survey Core Library.

Back in Korea, they are preparing business plan for linking with  Curtin and UWA, to submit to the Korean Ministry of Knowledge and Economy .

They hope to be able to initiate the program with a short term student camp commencing in Semester One this year and follow this with long term study and internship programs.

Date Created: Tuesday, 16 February 2010
